Copernic Desktop Search 1.5 official released

Copernic released the official 1.5 version of its desktop search tool today. The final release of CDS 1.5 features smarter CPU resource usage, improved Mozilla Thunderbird support, broader metadata indexing, support for Netscape 8, multiple performance increases, and much more. The key features introduced in the beta version of CDS 1.5 were Thunderbird and Eudora email search, indexing of network drives, improved multimedia metadata indexing, usability improvements, and a new API for adding custom file indexers.

I won't be using this tool however. Why? Copernic has completely dropped the ball when it comes to supporting Tablet PC users. Their deskbar is broken and, despite numerous exchanges with their tech support group, they have finally admitted that they do not have Tablet PC to test against, will not be getting a Tablet PC to test against, and have no interest in making the nominal investment required to figure this out. James Kendrick reports on this sorry state of affairs on his blog. I received the same response from Copernic's support team. I like his summary:

"So the end result is they don't have a Tablet PC, don't intend to get one soon so they can support the platform properly, but want me to see if the newest beta version of CDS works better on the Tablet. Since they don't have a Tablet if it did work better it would be totally by accident, wouldn't it? Needless to say I removed CDS from my Tablet weeks ago (this exchange took place over a month long period) and am not going to try this new version since they have told me they don't test it on the Tablet PC. I give them credit for continuing to follow through with this process, even if in a misguided fashion, but to tell a customer with problems that they do not test the program on a platform with a million installed users, well, that's kind of stupid, isn't it?"
